Dear Fellow International Students,
My name is Huimin, and I am running for the position of International Student
Representative. I am currently an academic Class Representative for the MSc in Finance
(Investment and Asset Management) and have always been passionate about helping others. I
am also honored to have been granted the Claddagh Scholarship, which reflects my
dedication to my studies and my commitment to making the most of my time at UCC. Today,
I am stepping forward to represent and advocate for the unique needs of international students
like us.
As an international student myself, I fully understand the challenges we face when studying
in a foreign country. From adapting to different cultural norms to overcoming language
barriers, it can be overwhelming at times. Coming from China and being a non-native English
speaker, I know firsthand how these obstacles can affect both our academic and social lives.
However, I also believe that by supporting one another, we can turn these challenges into
opportunities for personal growth.
I have traveled extensively, having visited all the main cities in mainland China, as well as
Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Thailand, Japan, Israel, Italy, France, Germany, Switzerland,
Sweden, Denmark, and Iceland. These experiences have broadened my perspective and
deepened my appreciation for different cultures. This open-mindedness is something I bring
to my role as a representative. I want to ensure that UCC continues to be a welcoming and
inclusive environment where international students feel supported, heard, and empowered.
If elected, my goals as your International Student Representative would be to:
1. Promote Inclusion and Diversity: I will work to create events and platforms that
celebrate the diverse cultures represented at UCC. I aim to foster an environment
where all international students can share their cultures, ideas, and experiences.
2. Improve Support Systems: I will advocate for better resources and services to
support our academic, mental, and emotional well-being. This includes working with
the Student Union to ensure that international students have easy access to guidance
on visas, accommodation, and career opportunities.
3. Strengthen Communication: I believe it is essential that the concerns and needs of
international students are clearly communicated to the university administration. As
your representative, I will be your voice, ensuring that your opinions are heard and
acted upon.
4. Build Community: Living close to campus, I am always available to connect and
offer support, whether it’s sharing information, providing advice, or simply being
there to listen. I see myself as a satellite for campus, ready to respond to the needs of
our community at any time.
As your representative, I promise to be proactive, approachable, and dedicated to enhancing
the experience of every international student at UCC. Together, we can make UCC not just a
place to study, but a home away from home.
Thank you for your support, and I look forward to serving you.
Sincerely,
Huimin Li
